Apply A Fee Per Line Item Automation
The Apply A Fee Per Line Item automation lets you attach a named fee directly to individual line items on a return or warranty claim. Unlike a claim-level fee, this fee is scoped to each matching line item, giving you more precise control when products in the same claim should carry different charges.
What You Can Expect
Section titled “What You Can Expect”With this automation, you can:
- Charge per line item: Apply a fee to each matching item individually, rather than to the claim as a whole.
- Choose a fixed or percentage amount: Fixed fees can optionally be multiplied by the item’s quantity. Percentage fees are calculated on the value of each matching line item.
- Name the fee: Give the fee a display name that your customer sees during the return flow and on the claim overview page.
- Edit or remove fees in the Admin: When a claim is not yet finalized, your team can adjust or remove a line item fee directly from the claim record.
Features and Functionality
Section titled “Features and Functionality”Display Name
Section titled “Display Name”Every fee requires a Display Name. This name appears to the customer as a chip on their claim overview page, formatted as {Display Name}: -{amount}. Choose a name that clearly describes the charge, such as “Processing Fee” or “Restocking Fee”.
Fee Amount
Section titled “Fee Amount”You can configure the fee as either a fixed amount or a percentage. Percentage fees are calculated on the value of the claimed line item (price plus tax, times the quantity claimed). Enter percentages as whole numbers greater than 1 (for example, 10 for 10%). Values of 1 or less are treated as a fraction, so 1 charges 100% and 0.5 charges 50%. Setting the amount to 0 waives the fee for matching items.
Rule Priority
Section titled “Rule Priority”Corso checks each line item against your Apply A Fee Per Line Item rules separately. Only the first matching rule applies to each item, so place a 0 waiver rule above the rules it overrides.
How Fees Are Collected
Section titled “How Fees Are Collected”Line item fees are deducted from the refund or store credit. If the claim has no refund or store credit items, such as an exchange-only claim, line item fees are only charged when the Stripe integration is connected so the customer can pay by card.
Charge Per Quantity of Item
Section titled “Charge Per Quantity of Item”When you select a fixed fee amount, the Charge Per Quantity of Item toggle becomes available. Enabling it multiplies the fixed fee by the quantity of matching items on the line item. This toggle is not available for percentage-based fees.
Customer Experience
Section titled “Customer Experience”Customers see each fee as a labeled chip directly on the affected line item in their claim overview. The chip shows the display name and the amount deducted.
Admin Experience
Section titled “Admin Experience”In the claim record, line item fees appear beneath each affected item in the Fees section. When the claim is not yet finalized, your team can:
- Click the edit icon to adjust the fee amount.
- Click the remove icon to remove the fee entirely.
If a claim has line item fees applied, the Edit Fees modal for claim-level fees displays a notice reminding your team that line item fees are managed on each line item, not in that modal.
How to Set Up Apply A Fee Per Line Item

Q: How is this different from the Apply Or Waive A Claim Fee automation?
Apply Or Waive A Claim Fee applies a single fee at the claim level. Apply A Fee Per Line Item attaches a fee to each individual line item that matches your rule conditions. Use the per-line-item automation when different products in the same claim should carry their own fee.
Q: Can I apply both a claim-level fee and a line item fee on the same claim?
Yes. Both types of fees can apply to the same claim. Each appears separately in the claim summary and on the customer’s claim overview.
Q: Does the percentage fee apply to the item’s original price or the claimed value?
The percentage is calculated on the value of the claimed line item: the price paid plus tax, times the quantity claimed.
Q: Can my team adjust a line item fee after the claim is submitted?
Yes, as long as the claim is not finalized. Use the edit and remove icons in the Fees section of the affected line item in the claim record.
Q: What happens if I set the fee amount to 0?
Setting the amount to 0 waives the fee for line items that match the rule conditions, as long as the rule sits above any other Apply A Fee Per Line Item rule that would match.
