Shipping Protection Overview
Shipping protection is Corso’s general post-purchase coverage for shipping issues on protected orders. At a high level, it gives customers a clear way to opt in to coverage, gives them a place to report shipping issues, and gives your team a way to offload those issues to Corso.
If you are looking for the simplest mental model, think of shipping protection in three parts:
- The customer chooses a protected option.
- The order is recognized as protected.
- Corso helps resolve qualifying shipping issues such as lost, damaged, missing, or stolen shipments.
What Corso does
Section titled “What Corso does”For protected orders, Corso helps handle the customer experience around shipping issues.
That typically includes:
- Giving customers a clear path to report a shipping issue through the portal or a deep link.
- Helping review and resolve protected shipping issues.
- Handling customer communication related to those issues.
- Issuing reorders or refunds through Shopify workflows when applicable.

How shipping protection works
Section titled “How shipping protection works”Corso shipping protection is designed to be visible and customer-friendly.
In the standard flow:
- A customer sees a protected option during the purchase flow.
- They opt in to protection.
- The order is treated as protected.
- If a shipping issue happens later, the customer can use the Corso portal or a direct link to report it.
- Corso works the issue toward a resolution.
Depending on your setup, the protection may appear as a product added during the cart and checkout flow, or it may be included directly in the shipping rate itself.
Basics of getting set up
Section titled “Basics of getting set up”The right setup depends on which version of shipping protection you want to offer, but the basics are usually the same:
- Choose the implementation model that fits your storefront.
- Make sure the customer-facing experience is transparent.
- Configure the customer portal and customer messaging.
- Test a protected checkout and confirm the order is recognized as protected.
For most brands, setup starts with the standard Checkout Plus flow:
Different versions of shipping protection
Section titled “Different versions of shipping protection”Corso supports a few different ways to offer shipping protection.
1. Checkout Plus
Section titled “1. Checkout Plus”This is the standard shipping protection setup for many brands.
With Checkout Plus, customers opt in during the cart or checkout experience. Corso can represent that protection through the checkout flow in a transparent way, including the cart, checkout widgets, and supporting messaging.
Start here if you want a straightforward, dedicated opt-in experience for shipping protection.

2. Shipping Plus
Section titled “2. Shipping Plus”Shipping Plus is a rate-based version of shipping protection. Instead of relying only on a separate product-style opt-in flow, Corso acts as a Shopify carrier-calculated shipping service and can add a dynamic price to shipping rates.
This version is often a better fit when you want protection bundled into the shipping option itself, sometimes alongside other services such as free returns or sustainability messaging.

3. Protect Your Own Rates
Section titled “3. Protect Your Own Rates”Some brands already rely on specific Shopify or third-party shipping rates and simply want those rates treated as protected.
In that setup, Corso can protect named shipping lines without requiring you to rebuild your shipping strategy around full Shipping Plus rates.

4. Checkout Plus + Shipping Plus
Section titled “4. Checkout Plus + Shipping Plus”Some merchants use both together. This lets Corso handle buyer consent and transparency while also using rate-based shipping logic where it makes sense.
