Happy Returns

Happy Returns lets your customers return items without a box and without a label. The customer takes the items and a QR code to a nearby Return Bar location, staff scan the item barcodes, and the items travel back to you via a consolidated freight carrier.

For your customers, that removes the two steps most likely to stall a return: finding a box and printing a label. For your team, the claim behaves like any other Corso claim, it appears in your queue, moves through the same statuses, and finalizes the same way.

Happy Returns only applies to return claims.

With the integration enabled:

  • Eligible customers see a Drop off at any Happy Returns® location option first in their list of return methods, with the closest locations, today’s hours, and distance in miles.
  • Customers who choose it get a QR code and a confirmation code on their claim overview page, and can save the code to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
  • No box and no label are needed. Items are handed over unpackaged and scanned at the counter.
  • Your team sees the same QR code and confirmation code on the claim in your Corso Admin.
  • Once Happy Returns inspects and approves the item, the claim will be finalized per the terms and conditions of Happy Returns. See Finalization.

How Happy Returns Differs from a Label or Packing Slip

Section titled “How Happy Returns Differs from a Label or Packing Slip”

This is the important part, and it is different from how every other return method in Corso works.

Shipping labels and packing slips are return methods you choose. You define them on a Return Shipping Policy, point them at a return location, and the customer receives whichever one your policy selected.

Happy Returns works the other way around:

Label / Packing SlipHappy Returns
How it is offeredYou select it on a return shipping policyOffered automatically to every eligible customer
Return locationRouted to a return location you configuredNo return location. Items consolidate at the drop-off point
Selectable in automationsYes, under Return Shipping PolicyNo

PackagingCustomer supplies a boxNo box needed
FinalizationManual, or an Auto-Finalization rule you buildAutomatic on receipt, required by the Happy Returns program
Who sets the termsYou doYour agreement with Happy Returns

Because the offer is automatic, there is nothing to add to your automations and no policy to rewrite. You will not find Happy Returns in the Return Method dropdown on a Return Shipping Policy rule. Corso adds it to the customer’s options whenever the customer qualifies.

Your existing policies keep working exactly as they do now. A customer who qualifies for Happy Returns sees it in addition to the label or packing slip your policy produced, and picks whichever they prefer.

Two things have to be true before the integration does anything, and only one of them is in your hands:

  • An account with Happy Returns. You contract with Happy Returns directly, and their program terms govern how these returns are handled, including when a return counts as received and when the resolution is issued. Corso follows those terms rather than setting them. See Finalization.
  • Provisioning by Corso. Your Happy Returns retailer ID is entered by our team during onboarding. There is no field for it in your Corso Admin, so this step cannot be completed without us.

Contact support@corso.com or your Corso representative to start. Once we have connected your account, the toggle described below becomes available.

After your store is provisioned, according to your Happy Returns agreement:

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations in your Corso Admin.
  2. Find Happy Returns under the Shipping Provider section.
  3. Switch the toggle on.

The card confirms the state directly: Happy Returns is enabled. or Happy Returns is disabled.

If the card reads Please contact us to connect your Happy Returns account, your store has not been provisioned yet. The toggle is disabled and there is nothing you can do from this screen. Reach out to support@corso.com and we will connect your account.

Once provisioned, the toggle is the only Happy Returns setting you control. There is nothing else to configure: no locations to add, no return methods to select, and no automation rules to write.

Turning the toggle off stops Corso from offering the drop-off on new claims. Claims that already have a Happy Returns QR code are unaffected.

Corso offers the drop-off when all of the following are true:

  • The integration is enabled for your store.
  • The return shipping address is in the United States. Happy Returns is not offered on returns from other countries.
  • Happy Returns confirms the items in the claim are eligible.
  • There is at least one drop-off location near the customer’s postal code.

If any of these fail, the customer simply sees your usual return methods. Nothing errors out and nothing is hidden from them.

Two cases never see a Happy Returns option:

  • Global-E orders. Cross-border orders placed through Global-E must return through Global-E.
  • Shipments your team creates from the Corso Admin. Happy Returns drop-offs are created only when the customer selects one in the portal.

On the How would you like to return your items? step, the Happy Returns option is listed first, above any label or packing slip. It shows:

  • The nearby drop-off locations, each with its distance in miles and whether it is open today.
  • A show more control on each location that expands the full week of hours and a link to the location on a map.
  • Any promotions the location is running, such as a discount for dropping off in store.
  • A link to See all Happy Returns® locations.
  • An acknowledgement that the customer has had the opportunity to read the Happy Returns privacy policy.

If Happy Returns turns out to be the only method available for that claim, the customer skips the selection step entirely and goes straight to their return summary.

  • If the closest Happy Returns location is within 10 miles, Happy Returns will be the only return method available.
  • If the closest Happy Returns location is greater than 10 miles, Happy Returns will be available along with your other configured shipping methods.
  • If the closest Happy Returns locations is outside of your agreement, then no Happy Returns location will be available.

The claim overview page replaces the usual label download with the drop-off itself:

  • A heading reading Drop off your items by [date] at any Happy Returns® location. The date is your store’s return expiration window, the same one that governs labels and packing slips.
  • Dropoff Instructions: remove shipping materials, and item barcodes will be scanned.
  • The QR code and the confirmation code beneath it.
  • An Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Google Wallet button, shown based on the customer’s device.
  • A Find a Happy Returns® location button.

There is nothing to download and nothing to print. The items move to Awaiting Return as soon as the claim is created, exactly as they would with a label.

Open the claim and look at the Shipments card:

  • The QR code and confirmation code are shown inline, with buttons to copy the code and download the QR image. That helps when a customer contacts support and cannot find their email.
  • The shipment has no To: address, because a consolidated drop-off has no single destination.
  • Clicking the eye icon opens Shipment Details, which lists the Confirmation Code, the carrier as Happy Returns, and the service as Return Bar.

On the claim timeline you will see:

Happy Returns Return Bar dropoff generated for shipment #[id].

In your claim views, the return method filters and displays as Happy Returns.

Happy Returns reports back to Corso as the return progresses, and Corso acts on two outcomes.

Happy Returns tells Corso exactly what physically came back, which is not always what the customer requested. Under the program, their report is the record of what was received. Corso reconciles the claim against it before finalizing:

  • Items that never arrived are canceled with a status detail of Item Not Returned.
  • Items that arrived in a smaller quantity than requested are reduced to the quantity received, and their refund or credit amounts are scaled to match. A timeline entry records it: Happy Returns reduced [item] to the quantity that was received, with the received and requested quantities attached.
  • Once the claim reflects what came back, Corso finalizes it. See Finalization below.

If Corso cannot match anything in the report to the claim, it leaves the claim open for your team rather than guessing. Nothing is canceled and nothing is finalized.

If the customer never drops the items off before the window closes, Happy Returns reports the return as expired. Expiry and the handling that follows are defined by the Happy Returns program.

When Corso receives that report, it cancels the claim with a status detail of Item Not Returned, notes it on the timeline with a reason of Expired, and returns any payment it had collected from the customer for that claim. The customer paid toward a return that never happened, so nothing is kept.

Happy Returns claims finalize themselves. This is a second place where the integration behaves unlike the rest of Corso, and it is worth understanding before you turn it on.

It is a program requirement, not a Corso setting

Section titled “It is a program requirement, not a Corso setting”

Everywhere else in Corso, finalizing a claim without a person clicking Finalize requires an Auto-Finalization rule that you create. You name it, set conditions such as shipment status = In Transit or a warehouse RMA event, and usually restrict it to specific resolution methods. No rule, no automatic finalization. You decide the terms.

Happy Returns does not work that way. Resolving the return once the items are received is a condition of the Happy Returns program, and it applies to every completed drop-off, for every resolution type, whether or not you have ever created an Auto-Finalization rule. Corso is carrying out that condition rather than making a decision on your behalf, so there is no rule to write and no switch to turn off. That is not because we withheld one; the timing is not ours to set.

The customer hands the items over at the counter and walks out. From their side, the return is finished. There is no package in transit and nothing further for them to do. The program resolves the return on that basis, which is what makes a drop-off faster for the customer than mailing a box back.

What Corso finalizes on is a stronger signal than a transit scan anyway. Rather than acting on a package being in motion, it acts on Happy Returns’ report of what physically came back, after the items have been received and processed.

Corso finalizes what is open on the claim. These are left alone:

  • Items already canceled, denied and closed, or finalized on an earlier pass.
  • Items whose resolution is still waiting on a decision from your team.

If nothing on the claim is left to approve or deny, finalization stops and the claim is untouched.

Finalization uses your standard finalization email templates, chosen by outcome: approved as requested, approved but not as requested, or denied.

The email only sends if auto-finalization emails are enabled in your Corso settings. If that setting is off, the claim still finalizes and the customer is not emailed about it.

Automatic finalization is recorded on the claim so it is never a surprise:

Started claim finalization based on Happy Returns complete event.

Partial returns read partial-refund in place of complete.

Q: Can I turn Happy Returns on myself? No. Your store has to be provisioned by Corso first, and the retailer ID that connects your account is entered by our team. Until that happens the integration card shows Please contact us to connect your Happy Returns account and the toggle is disabled. Contact support@corso.com to get set up.

Q: Do I have to add Happy Returns to my return shipping policies? No. Happy Returns is offered automatically to eligible customers and is not a return method you configure. Your existing policies continue to produce labels and packing slips as they do today.

Q: Will this replace the label or packing slip my policy generates? No. Eligible customers see both and choose. Happy Returns is listed first, then the carrier label, then pack and ship.

Q: Do I need an EasyPost or Vesyl account for this? No. Happy Returns is separate from your label provider. See Configuring a Shipping Provider for the providers that do generate labels.

Q: Does a Happy Returns drop-off need a return location? No. Items are consolidated at the drop-off point rather than shipped to a return address, so the shipment has no destination address and no return location is applied.

Q: Do I need an Auto-Finalization rule for Happy Returns claims? No, and one would not help. Resolving the return on receipt is a condition of the Happy Returns program, so it happens without a rule. An Auto-Finalization rule conditioned on a carrier shipment status could never fire on a drop-off anyway, because there is no label and no tracking number.

Q: Can I stop refunds from resolving automatically on a Happy Returns claim? Not through Corso. This is not a setting we are withholding. The Happy Returns program requires the return to be resolved once the items are received, and Corso is carrying out that condition rather than setting it. If it does not fit how your team works, that is a conversation with your Happy Returns representative about your agreement.

Q: Who decides when a refund goes out on these claims? The terms of the Happy Returns program, agreed between you and Happy Returns. Corso acts on their report of what came back and records what happened on the claim timeline. We do not set the timing and cannot override it for individual claims.

Q: Will my existing Auto-Finalization rules interfere? No. Happy Returns claims do not run through the automation rule engine, so your rules are neither consulted nor bypassed for other claim types. They keep working exactly as they do today for label and packing slip returns.

Q: Does a Happy Returns claim wait for my team to inspect the items? No. The claim resolves as soon as Happy Returns reports the return as complete, using their report of what came back as the check on quantities. Inspecting the items after the fact does not reopen it.

Q: Are instant exchanges available on a Happy Returns drop-off? No. Instant exchanges require a return label, so a customer who chooses the drop-off is offered a standard exchange instead. See Instant Exchanges.

Q: Can my team create a Happy Returns drop-off from the Corso Admin? No. The Return Method dropdown when creating a shipment offers Shipping Label and Packing Slip. Drop-offs are created only when a customer selects one in the portal.

Q: What does the customer bring to the drop-off location? The items and their QR code, on their phone, in their wallet app, or printed. No box, no label, and no packing materials.

Q: How long does the customer have to drop the items off? The same return window your store already uses for labels and packing slips. The deadline is shown on their claim overview page.

Q: What happens if the customer only returns some of the items? Corso reduces the claim to what actually arrived, cancels the rest as Item Not Returned, and then finalizes. You do not need to edit the claim by hand.

Q: Is Happy Returns available outside the United States? Not today. Corso offers the drop-off only when the return shipping address is in the United States.

Q: Does turning the integration off affect claims already in flight? No. Existing QR codes stay valid and those claims finish normally. The toggle only controls whether new claims are offered the option.
