Returns General Settings
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The Returns General Settings page is where you define your store’s default return rules. These settings act as the baseline for all return requests, and you can layer automations on top to handle specific scenarios with higher priority.
What You Can Expect
Section titled “What You Can Expect”With general return settings, you can:
- Control your return policy defaults for refunds, store credit, and exchanges.
- Customize return windows separately for each resolution type.
- Set up incentives to encourage store credit over refunds.
- Manage inventory handling automatically in Shopify.
- Enable advanced exchanges that allow customers to swap across product groups.
Key Features and Functionality
Section titled “Key Features and Functionality”Enable or Disable Returns
Section titled “Enable or Disable Returns”- Toggle returns on or off at any time.
- Settings can be pre-configured even if returns are disabled, so you’re ready to launch when needed.
Policy and Claim Requirements
Section titled “Policy and Claim Requirements”- Return policy URL: Add a link to your store’s return policy for customers.
- Media uploads: Require customers to upload photos when submitting returns.
- Inspections: Enable item inspections on claims if your workflow requires it.
- Return expiration days: Set the timeframe for customers to drop off items after a label is generated (default 28 days; EasyPost labels expire after 30 days).
Shopify Platform Settings
Section titled “Shopify Platform Settings”- Restock items: Choose whether approved returns automatically restock to Shopify.
- Partially fulfilled orders: Allow or prevent claims on orders that haven’t been fully shipped.
Resolution Options
Section titled “Resolution Options”- Toggle Refunds, Store Credit, and Exchanges on or off.
- Define separate eligibility windows (e.g., 30 days for refunds, 60 days for store credit).
Store Credit Incentives
Section titled “Store Credit Incentives”Encourage store credit over refunds by offering:
- Percentage bonus (e.g., 10% extra credit).
- Fixed amount (e.g., +$10 credit).
- Delivery method: Issue credit as a new order gift card or directly via Shopify email.
- Customize gift card settings (prefix, suffix, and gift card ID) to align with your Shopify configuration.
Exchange Settings
Section titled “Exchange Settings”- Allow exchange of exchanged items: Let customers exchange an item they already swapped once.
- Order prefix & shipping title: Customize how exchange orders appear in Shopify.
- Minimum inventory available: Control stock thresholds for what customers see as exchange options (e.g., hide sizes with fewer than 10 units).
Advanced Exchanges
Section titled “Advanced Exchanges”Set rules that allow exchanges across product groups, with control over pricing behavior:
- Conditions: Define which product groups can exchange with which others (e.g., jackets → tees and pants).
- Exchange methods:
- Upsell/downsell with price adjustments
- Like-for-like only (no price changes)
- Filters & exclusions: Allow customers to search or filter options, and exclude items by title or description.
- Display settings: Choose whether options display alphabetically or by newest first.
Implementation
Section titled “Implementation”To configure your return settings:
- Navigate to Returns → General Settings in Corso Admin.
- Enable or disable returns as needed.
- Add your policy URL, proof requirements, and expiration rules.
- Configure Shopify settings for restocking and partial fulfillment.
- Turn on refunds, store credit, and/or exchanges and set their respective windows.
- Add store credit incentives if desired.
- Adjust exchange rules, minimum inventory thresholds, and advanced exchange conditions.
- Save your settings.
Q: Can I set different return windows for refunds, store credit, and exchanges?
Yes. Each resolution type can have its own timeframe.
Q: How do store credit incentives work?
You can offer customers a bonus (percentage or fixed amount) to encourage choosing store credit over a refund.
Q: What happens if inventory is below the minimum threshold for exchanges?
The product won’t show as an available option to customers.
Q: Can I restock returned items automatically in Shopify?
Yes. When enabled, approved returns automatically update your inventory in Shopify.
Q: Can customers exchange items across different product groups?
Yes. Using Advanced Exchanges, you can define product groups that can be swapped with each other.
