Gift Card Incentives Automation

Gift Card Incentives allow you to encourage customers to choose store credit over a refund by providing a bonus amount on top of their return. This can be configured globally as a default incentive or conditionally through automation rules.

With gift card incentives, you can:

  • Encourage store credit by offering customers an extra percentage or fixed amount.
  • Set a default incentive that applies across all returns.
  • Create conditional incentives that only apply in specific scenarios (e.g., by product type, return reason, or customer profile).
  • Customize incentives per situation without needing to change your global return settings.
  • Drive retention by keeping more revenue within your store while providing extra value to customers.

  • Found in Return Settings → Store Credit.
  • Set a percentage (e.g., 10% extra credit) or a fixed amount (e.g., $5 bonus).
  • This applies to all return-to-store-credit cases unless modified by automation rules.
  • Leaving this blank means no incentive is applied globally.
  • Located under Automations → Gift Card Incentive Rules.
  • Rules can:
    • Modify the default incentive (e.g., increase the bonus only for certain products).
    • Create a conditional incentive even if no global incentive is set.
  • You can add multiple conditions such as:
    • Claim reason (e.g., “Too Small”)
    • Customer details (e.g., first-time buyer vs. repeat customer)
    • Order details (e.g., order total over $100)
    • Product attributes (e.g., applies only to apparel, not accessories)
  • Percentage-based: Adds a % of the original return amount.
  • Fixed amount: Adds a set bonus value to the gift card.
  • If no conditions are set, the rule will always apply.
  • Rules override or add to the default settings depending on how they’re configured.
  • Multiple rules can exist, giving you flexibility to tailor incentives across customer and product scenarios.

To set up Gift Card Incentives:

  1. Go to Return Settings → Store Credit.
  2. Set a global incentive (optional).
  3. Go to Automations → Gift Card Incentive Rules.
  4. Click Create Rule.
  5. Add conditions (or leave blank to apply universally).
  6. Set percentage or fixed amount.
  7. Save and enable the rule.
  8. Test with a return to ensure incentives apply correctly.

Q: Do I have to set a default incentive?
No. You can leave it blank and only use conditional automation rules if preferred.

Q: What happens if I set both a default incentive and a rule?
The automation rule takes priority and modifies or replaces the default incentive.

Q: Can I run multiple incentive rules at once?
Yes. You can create as many rules as needed, and they will apply based on their conditions.

Q: Can I mix percentage and fixed incentives?
Yes, you can choose either option for each rule, depending on your needs.
