Setting Up Discount Codes for Exchanges and Replacements

When Corso processes an exchange, it creates a new order in Shopify and applies a discount code to bring that order total to zero. This keeps the original payment on the original order while marking the exchange order at $0. The Exchange Order Discount Code setting allows you to customize the specific discount code Corso uses for this purpose, giving you control over how these orders appear in Shopify and connect to your reporting or accounting systems.

By configuring your Exchange Order Discount Code, you can:

  • Align with internal reporting: Name the discount code to match your accounting or reporting conventions so zero dollar exchange orders are easy to identify and categorize.
  • Improve Shopify order clarity: Ensure the discount code displayed on exchange orders in Shopify matches your team’s expectations and workflows.
  • Support third-party integrations: Use a code that is recognizable to any external systems connected to your Shopify store.

When a customer submits an exchange request and a new order is created, Corso applies a discount code to that new order to zero out the total. The customer’s original payment remains on the original order and is not affected.

For example, if a customer paid $68 for an item and later exchanges it:

  • The original order still reflects the $68 payment.
  • The exchange order is created at $0, with the configured discount code applied and visible in Shopify.

This behavior applies to standard exchanges as well as instant exchanges, where the new order is placed before the return is received.
