Improving Your Attach Rate

Corso has proven experience with millions of protected orders and processed claims. Checkout Plus has been run through the gauntlet of A/B tests by some of Shopify’s top brands to ensure it has no negative impact on order conversion or abandonment.

Corso has two primary goals with Checkout Plus that must be balanced when considering attach rate:

  1. Get explicit buyer consent to add a product to checkout in a trustworthy and transparent way.
  2. Protect as many orders as possible to optimize customer experience and revenue.

In general, brands that use Corso can expect around a 60% attach rate with Checkout Plus. Some brands achieve attach rates as high as 85% while others are less. Here are a few things to look for as you try to optimize your attach rate.

Brands with high attach rates have a single, obvious button to proceed to checkout. Defer the choice of payment method to the checkout page itself, where customers can choose options like Shop Pay, PayPal, and more. Multiple competing buttons on the cart can distract from the checkout flow and reduce attach rate.

2. Give multiple options to opt in or opt out

Transparency is important and you don’t want to confuse your customer. If you are on a Shopify Plus plan, use Corso’s checkout extensions to give customers the choice to add or remove protection both on your cart page and at checkout.

Corso provides dynamic pricing based on cart value. To optimize revenue without significantly impacting attach rate, keep the price of protection at 3% or less of the cart value. We haven’t seen meaningful drops in attach rate below this threshold.

Corso only protects online orders placed through Shopify. If a significant portion of your sales come from POS or other channels, this will lower your overall attach rate percentage.

Corso can be added to the first shipment of new subscriptions as well as recurring shipments. However, existing subscription contracts created before Corso was installed will not be protected, which can lower your attach rate percentage.

High prices can impact whether customers choose to protect their order. The sweet spot to optimize both attach rate and revenue is around 3% of the cart value.

Corso has been optimized for extremely fast load speeds and should have no impact on your customers’ ability to checkout. However, how quickly the widget loads can be affected by your site’s overall speed or the customer’s internet connection. Shopify loads app embeds like Corso after core Shopify files, so if there are many other apps or scripts running, this can delay how quickly the widget appears on screen for the customer to opt in. Generally this isn’t a problem, but it could be a concern if you know your site speed is lower than average.

Factors like your product type, average order value, and customer demographics can all have some impact on attach rate. Corso has been doing this for a long time and we are confident in the technology and practices behind Checkout Plus to accomplish our two primary goals.
