Applying Fees by Percentage or Claim Line Item Quantity

Corso now gives you more flexibility when charging fees on return claims. You can set fees as a percentage of the claim value instead of just a fixed amount, and you can trigger those fees based on the total quantity of items in the claim. This makes it easy to handle scenarios like large multi-size orders or bulk returns where you want to discourage excessive returns.

By using percentage-based fees and claim quantity conditions, you can:

  • Tailor fee structures: Apply a flat percentage (e.g., 10%) instead of a fixed fee.
  • Control return behavior: Add conditions like “apply a fee if more than 5 items are returned.”
  • Increase fairness: Charge proportionally to the value of items being returned.
  • Stay flexible: Create multiple rules and prioritize them depending on your policies.
  • Add a rule condition that checks the number of items in a claim.
  • Example: Apply a fee if the quantity is greater than 5.
  • When setting the action in your rule, you can now choose “Percentage” instead of “Fixed Amount.”
  • Example: Apply a 10% fee against the total claim value.
  • Name the fee however you want (e.g., “Handling Fee” or “Restocking Fee”).
  • The title will display to the customer in the deductions section.
  • Create multiple fee rules for different scenarios.
  • Drag and drop to prioritize which rule applies first.
  • Customers see their return credit, deductions, and handling fee before submitting.
  • The deduction appears in the breakdown alongside gift card or refund totals.
  • Works with both refunds and exchanges.

In the claim record, you’ll see:

  • Claim line items and their total value
  • The calculated fee applied (percentage-based)
  • Remaining credit issued (refund or gift card)

To set this up:

  1. Navigate to Rules in the Corso Admin.
  2. Select Apply or Waive a Fee Rule.
  3. Add a Claim Line Item Quantity condition (e.g., “greater than 5”).
  4. Set the Action to apply a percentage-based fee (e.g., 10%).
  5. Title the fee for display in the customer portal.
  6. Save and prioritize your rule.

Q: Can I apply different percentage fees for different claim sizes?

Yes. You can create multiple rules (e.g., 10% for 6–10 items, 15% for 11+ items) and prioritize them.

Q: Does the percentage apply to the total claim value or individual items?

The fee is calculated on the total claim value of all included items.

Q: Will this work for both refunds and exchanges?

Yes. The fee applies regardless of whether the customer selects a refund or an exchange.

Q: Can I still use fixed fees instead of percentages?

Yes. You can continue using fixed fees or mix both types across your rules.
